Youth Chamber Music Program
Spring Recital

The challenge and excitement of chamber music is something every musician needs to experience. Divertimento offers student violin, viola and cello players the chance to participate in serious ensemble playing, with individual and group coaching from veteran chamber musicians.
This year we are beginning an exciting new project designed to supplement the existing student string ensemble literature. Composer Geoff Hudson of Hybrid
Music will be composing studies and performable pieces for us and the other chamber music programs partnering in the “Quartet Project,” and we will provide feedback on the pieces as we learn them. You can read about this at: http://hybridvigormusic.org/AbouttheQuartetProject.html
This process will continue over the next two years. Mr. Hudson plans to be in Grand Forks for the fall concert.
It is not scheduled for spring semester, although we will assist intact groups that wish to continue independently. It is also possible that some groups will be asked to continue working on the Quartet Project music in the spring.
Participants learn to work cooperatively with other musicians of a similar playing level to develop rehearsal techniques, musical concepts, and a team approach to ensemble playing. The session will culminate in a formal public recital of chamber music; other performance opportunities will also be available.
Divertimento is designed for students at the age and level of playing proficiency expected by the GGFSO youth orchestras. Students from 6th grade through college age who are confident and independent musicians will benefit from this program. Auditions are concurrent with Junior and Youth Symphony auditions; audition requirements are the same. Space is limited. Musicians will be notified of their acceptance status within one week of the auditions.
